Black Doves Fly to Freedom explores the complexity of Blackness, from pre-enslavement to modern-day, and shines light on my own experiences as a Black woman in America. I use historical and personal narratives to challenge media portrayals of Blackness and increase society's emotional intelligence surrounding the identity
The overall message of Black Doves Fly to Freedom is more than just progress. It extends beyond the call for justice and equity to tell a story of how 400+ years of history and the capture of my ancestors changed the course of history and transformed the Black identity.
